SAFETY?

Acupuncture has been practiced in Asia for around 2,000 years, and in the hands of a fully qualified acupuncturist is a safe therapy. In Australia, fully qualified acupuncturists are registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia which is part of the national 'Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency' (AHPRA). AHPRA oversights the requirements and standards of practice for all registered health practitioners in Australia.

how does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific sites (acupuncture points) along the body's meridians (energy channels) to clear blockages and promote the normal flow of Qi (energy). The practitioner may also stimulate acupuncture points using other methods including massage, pressure, moxibustion and cupping to stimulate the flow of Qi. Investigation into the physiological basis of acupuncture is ongoing.

what are the benefits of acupuncture?

Acupuncture

  • Provides drug-free pain relief.
  • Used for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Has a holistic approach to the treatment of illness, linking body, mind and emotions.
  • Promotes and maintains general well-being.

Does it hurt?

Patients sometimes feel a small sting as the acupuncture needle is inserted. This sensation is momentary and not felt during the 20 to 30 minute treatment period.

Are acupuncture needles sterilised?

Yes. In Australia, acupuncturists use pre-sterilized, super-fine, single use needles. Needles are used only once and then disposed of in a sharps container.

Will I be able to claim a health fund rebate?

Yes. Rebates from Private Health Funds are available. What you can claim and the amount reimbursed depends upon your Health Fund cover.

Do you accept Credit Cards?

Yes, we accept MasterCard and Visa but not Amex or Diners Club.

What is dry needling?

Dry Needling is the practice of inserting needles into points on the body to relieve pain. Unlike acupuncture which requires a full degree program to achieve competence, dry needling is based on a short course of studies. In Australia, only practitioners who have undertaken a suitable bachelor level acupuncture program, or equivalent, are eligible to be registered as acupuncturists under the Commonwealth 'Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency'.
